Hanamkonda: The district Congress leaders alleged that the attack on All India Congress Committee (AICC) Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s car in Banasakantha district of Gujarat on Friday was a cowardly act by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists.
A massive protest was staged by the party activists in Warangal on Saturday condemning the attack against the AICC leader. An effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was burnt and slogans were raised against BJP by the protestors.

Speaking to presspersons on the occasion, Greater Warangal Congress Committee working president Rajanala Srihari said everyone who trusts in democracy should condemn the attack in strongest terms possible. The incident brought to light the real face of the BJP.

The Gujarat government had miserably failed to ensure security of a leader under SPG cover and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani should take moral responsibility for the failure and tender an open apology to Rahul Gandhi, Srihari demanded.

The incident speaks volumes about intolerant attitude of the BJP leaders towards opposition party leaders. Is it wrong to visit the people in distress following the floods and how will the BJP leaders justify the pelting of cement bricks on Rahul Gandhi’s car, Srihari questioned.

He suspected that the attack by BJP goons was a pre-planned conspiracy to deter Congress leader as the attackers shouted slogans in favour of Prime Minister Modi after attacking the car. But, the BJP cannot frighten Congress by such attacks and the party would come to power in 2019, he noted.

Speaking to The Hans India senior Congress leader and former mayor Errabelli Swarna felt that the attack reflects the state of law and order in BJP ruled States in the country. The incident shows that the BJP's way of politics must be condemned by all political parties as it is not good for the country.

‘The people in the country are with Congress and they would teach a lesson to the BJP in the days to come. Congress leadership would not back down with acts of intimidation and physical assaults’ she added. The party leaders Manda Vinod Kumar, Kothapalli Srinivas, Gorantala Raju, Chippa Venkateshwarlu, Mohammed Ayub and others took part in the protest.
