Hanamkonda: The district Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders took out a rally against the State government’s reported decision to divide Warangal city into Warangal and Hanamkonda.

The party leaders took out a rally to the District Collectorate and submitted a memorandum to the district administration on Saturday. A memorandum was also sent to the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao asking him to withdraw the decision.
The BJP leaders alleged that the proposal to divide the city was unwise and lack rationale. It was politically motivated and was aimed at benefitting the ruling party leaders in the district.

Speaking to presspersons, the party district president Rao Padma stated that the citizens living in tri-cities of Warangal-Hanamkoda-Kazipet are seriously opposing the State government’s decision.

The efforts to realign the boundaries of Warangal Urban and Warangal Rural districts to create Warangal and Hanamkonda districts would dilute the historic significance of Warangal city, which has a history of over 1000 years.

Being the second biggest city in Telangana, Warangal was granted several prestigious projects like Smarty City Mission, Heritage City and others by Central government. If the city was divided their implementation would become difficult and the fund flow would also be affected, she said.

Former MLA M Dharama Rao noted that employees from different sectors, businessmen, workers, educationalists and intellectuals were appealing to the Chief Minister to withdraw the decision for the betterment of the city.

The very creation of five districts out of erstwhile Warangal was without any proper shape, size and logic which caused many complications. Now dividing the city into two parts would create several problems in terms of administration and development, he pointed out.

Hence, the State government should quit the idea of dividing the city, the party leaders said while cautioning that the party would stage intensive agitations until the government concedes to the demand of the people.Party leaders M Satyanarayana, Prof K Ventaka Narayana, Rao Amarender Reddy, G Siva Kumar, S S Jagadishwar, N Venugopal Reddy and others were present.
