Warangal Urban: Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy has accused the Central government of exploiting the labour of Dak Sevaks by paying poor wages. He attended the third biannual meeting of All India Grameen Dak Sevaks Union (AIGDSU), Hanamkonda postal division of Telangana Circle at Arts College auditorium in Hanamkonda on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering, the Home Minister said the Centre was not following its policies on minimum wages. The Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya claimed that minimum wage should be Rs 10, 000 per month. But the Dak Sevaks were being paid only Rs 7,000 per month. The employees must unite and fight to protect their rights,” Narsimha Reddy said.

The Centre must end its discrimination towards the Dak Sevaks and implement provisions of the Minimum Wages Act, he said, adding that the Central government lacked concern towards the Dak Sevaks and he would take the issue to the notice of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to get it addressed.

The Home Minister further asserted that the Telangana government has taken several measures for the welfare of contract and outsourcing employees and has increased their wages. On the occasion, he launched a co-operative society of the Dak Sevaks.

The union leader B Venkateshwarlu demanded the Centre to implement recommendations of a committee set up to look into the demands of Dak Sevaks. While demanding immediate regularisation of the workers, he warned that they would go on indefinite strike from August 16 if the government failed to address their demands. MLAs D Vinay Bhasker, A Ramesh and Ch Dharma Reddy, Union leaders V Venkata Narsaiah, BN Singh, B Satyanarayana Reddy, Y Venkateshwarlu and others attend the meeting.
