Asifabad: Ever since the closure of the Sirpur Paper Mills, life has become miserable for the people living the quarters of the paper mills. The hopes of reviving the paper mills has been gradually receding.

For nearly seven months, people living in the quarters have been facing power cuts for almost eight hours every day. Even the water supply has been reduced to a considerable extent, thereby compounding their problems.

The living conditions have worsened so badly that most of the quarters which were vacated were now being replaced with officials of the newly formed Komaram Bheem district.

Even the officials living in those quarters having been facing power cuts. Though the local MLA Koneru Konappa is from the ruling TRS party, no measures have been taken by him to initiate the reopening the industry though lakhs of people depend on it to eke out their livelihood.

With the Raakhi festival on Monday, people do expect power supply round the clock. But there is no power supply due to some damage in the area and they are forced to spend their time in darkness in the quarters for the past two days. People have been facing sleepless nights and the children are seen crying due to the heat and humid conditions.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday, one of the residents Chandrakanth said that he has been suffering from various ailments but was unable to take rest or go to sleep due to the frequent power cuts. He expressed the hope that the authorities would take urgent steps to mitigate their sufferings.
