Medak: As many as 110 sheep belonging to a tribal farmer were burnt to ashes as the shelter in which they were kept caught fire due to a short circuit.

The incident took place in Sultanpur thanda under Thoguta gram panchayat of the newly formed Haveli Ghanpur mandal close to Medak town in the early hours of Monday.

Dharavath Shankar (42), a resident of the hamlet, had been raising 110 sheep from the time they were born. After rearing the sheep, he was planning to sell them.

But, unfortunately, the shelter caught fire due to a short circuit in the wiring system. Not a single sheep was able to escape from the fire mishap and within minutes, all the sheep were reduced to ashes. On Monday morning, the MRO and officials of the Animal Husbandry Department rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.

When asked whether the sheep were insured, a devastated Dharavath Shankar told The Hans India that the insurance period had expired just six days ago, and he forgot to get it renewed.

The losses due to fire mishap are estimated to be around Rs 6-7 lakh.
