Hyderabad: The Karimnagar Police foiled the indefinite hunger strike of former MP Ponnam Prabhakar which had entered the fourth day on Tuesday.

Police took Ponnam into custody and shifted him to Karimnagar Government Hospital in view of deterioration in his health condition. He is reportedly suffering from kidney ailment and since continuation of hunger strike could have posed a threat to his life, police forcibly shifted him to the hospital. Ponnam was on hunger strike at his residence in Karimnagar demanding establishment of a government medical college.

Speaking to media persons later, Ponnam said that he would continue the strike until government accepts his demand. He reminded that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao had promised about three years ago that he would establish a medical college in Karimnagar. However, KCR did not honour his promise and instead got a medical college for his native Siddipet district.
