Hyderabad: Health Minister Dr. K. Lakshma Reddy said that the Telangana Government has been improving the facilities in all public hospitals at a large scale.

Speaking after inaugurating the two-day conference of Association of Physicians at Gandhi Hospital on Saturday, Lakshma Reddy said that the improvement in facilities and increased faith of common people on government hospitals was evident from the fact that the number of patients in these hospitals have increased significantly. He said there has been increase in number of patients by 20-30% in almost all government hospitals. He said in view of rising number of patients, the state government has recently started a 65-bedded new ICU in Gandhi Hospitals.

The Health Minister advised doctors to avoid unnecessary surgeries. He said surgeries should be done only under unavoidable conditions. He said this would reduce the burden on all classes of patients. He advised the doctors working in government hospitals to serve the poor with total decision. He also expressed concern over attacks on duty doctors and other staff in government hospitals. He said steps were being taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

The conference was also addressed by officials of Indian Physicians Association including Dr. Narsimhulu, Dr. B.R Bansod, Dr. Vijay Mohan and Dr. Vijay Rao.
