Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), as a part of various activities in protection of the lakes and water bodies in and around Hyderabad, has taken up distribution of clay ganesh idols for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, to encourage the use of eco-friendly clay ganesh idols by the people.

As per the Government instructions, in order to curtail the usage of the idols painted with metallic colours and reducing pollution caused by these idols when immersed into the water bodies, HMDA intends to procure 30,000 clay ganesh idols of 8 inch size each as specified by the artisans who have proven experience in manufacturing the idols in large number. HMDA will be distributing these idols at discounted prices through various Resident Welfare associations, NGOs, Schools, Clubs, etc.

Areas where these eco-friendly idols will be distributed at discounted prices are HMDA head office at Tarnaka, Lumbini Park, NTR Gardens, BPP Office, Saroornagar Priyadarshini Park, Narayanaguda Melkote Park, Rajiv Gandhi Vanasthalipuram Park and Swarna Jayanthi Commercial Complex at Ameerpet.
