In addition, trade union leaders, women activists and NGOs also participated in the conference which was presided over by Prof Sunkari Ram Murthy of Telangana English Media Journalists Association. The programme highlighted the hurdles journalists faced in covering the incidents like honour killings, dowry harassment cases, child marriages, etc.

The speakers flayed the dictatorial attitude of the Chief Minister towards the journalists. The meeting took strong objection to the remarks made by the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao at a news conference recently against a Telugu daily and condemned the attacks on journalists.

The meeting also took objection to the style of functioning of the Chief Minister. The speakers said that he was autocratic in his rule; he does not come to Secretariat, does not grant interviews to different sections of people; and works according to his whims and fancies."
