Warangal: Libraries and librarians play a crucial role in dissemination of knowledge, noted writer G Girija Manohar Babu. They help students and researchers to advance their wisdom and they are like ‘silent universities’, he added.

The writer was addressing a gathering at Kakatiya Government Degree College on the occasion of Librarians Day in Hanamkonda on Saturday. Rich tributes were paid to pioneer of library science in the county, S R Ranganathan, by the speakers at the programme marking his125th birth anniversary.

The event was jointly organised by KU Library Professionals Association (KULPA), Telangana State Library Association (TLSA) Warangal branch, and department of Library and Information Science of Kakatiya University.

Ranganathan, who is called the 'Father of Library Science in India' has developed library science in the country on par with western countries, Manohar Babu stated recalling Ranganathan’s services. KULPA secretary V Krishnamacharya, TLSA general secretary D Satyanarayana, KU department of Library and Information Science head B Radhika Rani, the college librarian Shankaraiah, M Manohar Rao, G Rajeshwar Kumar and others were present.
