Hyderabad: A case of extortion was registered against four police officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP). They had allegedly threatened a person over a land deal and made him to sign cheques for Rs 60 lakh.
Acting upon a complaint filed by Qhizer bin Abu Baker, a case was registered against Pulinder Reddy, Additional DCP at the Rachakonda Police Headquarters, Raidurgam inspector Durga Prasad, sub-inspector Rajasekhar and constable Lakshmi Narayana. The case is being investigated by ACP Madhapur, M Ramana Kumar.
According to the higher officials, one of the family members of Additional DCP had decided to purchase land from Abu Baker in 2006. However, the deal didn't take off as the relatives of Pulinder Reddy failed to pay the amount they had agreed to.
During the meantime, the complainant sold the land to another party. This did not go well with the cop’s relatives and Additional DCP allegedly began harassment of the original land lord and demanded him money as compensation.
As per the instructions of Cyberabad Commissioner Sandeep Shandilya who was approached by the complainant, the investigation was launched.
Abu Baker was allegedly forced to sign about 5 cheques worth Rs 60 lakh.
A case was registered in the Raidurgam police station against the four police officials for extortion. The four were booked under various sections including 384 (punishment for extortion) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
