Hyderabad: The diversion of traffic near the Jubilee Hills 36 road to facilitate Metro Rail to carry out its construction work has not only caused inconvenience to commuters but also led to business establishments in the area to move out of the place. There has been drastic fall in business in the area during the last seven months.

The business establishments in the area have become inconspicuous due to diversion of traffic. Hasanthi, a resident of Secunderabad said, “I travelled five kilometres further from where I wanted to go, as I couldn’t locate the place because of this (Metro Rail) construction. This is a problem for customers like me, who are not familiar to this area.” The shop owners are complaining about the construction debris that has been lying in front of their shops leaving no space for parking.

“Three weeks ago they have dug up the area in front of my store, which has become a nuisance because the entire place is stinking as one of the pipes is broken but no action has been taken till now. Moreover, there is no parking space left that is causing traffic snarls,” said the manager of Aerofit.

There has been steep fall in business because the customers are unable to locate the shops. “The construction started one-and- half-year ago and the work has been progressing. However, many businesses have been affected in this locality; even the neighbouring store has shifted to another locality,” said Arjun, Area Manager for Roush.
