As a mark of gratitude, I paid tributes to the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, by displaying his portrait atop of the Mt Kilimanjaro, the Africa’s highest peak,” said Mallesh Naini jubilant, after successfully conquering the 5,895 metre mountain peak. He said that he also displayed the photograph of Komaram Bheem.

Mallesh Naini is studying in Telangana Tribal Walfare Residential Schools (TTWRS), Asifabad district. He belongs to the Mannevar Primitive Tribal group (PGT). He said, “this is my first flight journey and I never imagined that I would board a flight and would go on mountaineering expedition”.

“I always thankful to the government of Telangana and the Telangana Tribal Walfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TTWREIS) for making mountaineering a reality for even for a children of the Primitive Tribal Groups. It was a thrilling expedition and boosted my self-confidence levels significantly”, he said.

Mallesh Naini along with 13 other members from India, under the mentorship of mountaineer Sekhar Babu started trekking the mountain on August 10 and reached the peak on August 14 by night. They unfurled the 100ft India’s tricolour atop the mountain on the eve of Independence Day. The team members also sang the national anthem after successfully conquering the mountain.

Anand Kumar, alumnus of the TSWREIS, who scaled Mt Everest along with Malavath Poorna in 2014, also took part in the Mt Kilimanjaro expedition. The Secretary, Dr R S Praveen congratulated the students and said that the students could not have achieved the historic feat without the active support of the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the Minister for Tribal Welfare A Chandulal.
