Man arrested in Hyderabad for harassing woman constable

A 24-year-old man was arrested from Warangal for allegedly harassing a woman constable. The man, Biram Nikhil Kumar had been harassing the woman constable from the Ibrahimpatnam SHE team by sending her abusive messages, and uploading her contact number on a porn website.

The whole issue started when a Hyderabad student approached the Rachakonda police in October 2016 that she had been receiving abusive messages from Nikhil. The case was assigned to Ibrahimpatnam SHE Team in-charge ASI Narsimha after the student urged the police to resolve the issue instead of filing an FIR.

The woman constable then called up the accused, who denied the allegations and instead began sending abusive messages to the police officer.

Later, Nikhil even uploaded the woman’s contact number on a porn website, resulting in several calls from strangers leaving her traumatised. Following this, she filed a police complaint.

The SHE team filed a case under several sections of the IPC - section 354(D) (Stalking), 419 (Punishment for cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating), 471 (Using as genuine, a forged document or electronic record), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 66(c) of the IT Act.

The police arrested Nikhil after tracking his phone.
