Hyderabad: TRS government is the only government which has embarked on building two-bedroom houses for weaker sections at a cost of Rs 18,000 crore, said Minister for Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao here on Wednesday.

Speaking at a meeting after laying foundation stone for the construction of 1,620 2BHK houses at D’Pochampally (V) under Dundigal mandal in Medchal District, KTR said by the next August the project would be completed and it would emerge as a model township. Houses in the area are being constructed by deploying modernised technology. Apart from houses, facilities like roads, drainage and drinking water, etc. would be provided.

The Minister directed the contractor to ensure that a zone would be earmarked for planting trees. He urged the local MP, MLA, MLC to coordinate with the contractor and the officials for providing space for planting of trees in the same manner that it is practised in gated housing complexes. The two-bedroom houses are constructed in seven acres and each house is estimated to cost Rs 8.5 lakh,

The Minister further stated that the project is prat of the scheme to build 2BHK houses in the State. The GHMC has been given a target to build one lakh houses. Work on most of the projects has already begun, he said. He said that these projects are being taken up in the suburbs as land is not available in Twin Cities, he said.

Responding to the plea of the Ch Malla Reddy, KTR directed the district Collector to sort out the issue pertaining to title deeds to the assigned lands and other disputes amicably. He promised to ensure that 10 per cent of the houses would be provided to the local people. The Minister also praised the efforts by the Commissioner, GHMC and the Chief Engineer for taking up the 2BHK scheme on war-footing.
