Hyderabad: Various worker Unions of municipalities, except GHMC, in the State had served strike notice in support of their demands and wanted the authorities to resolve the issues at the earliest.

The worker Unions like CITU, AITUC, INTUC, IFTU, BMS, HMS, AIUTUC and TNTUC had served the strike notice to the Municipal Administration (MA) department and said they would go on strike on August 29 and 30 in support of their demands.

The Unions have been demanding enhancement of wages of outsourcing workers on par with wages increased to the workers in GHMC or enhancement of wages as per GO Ms No 14, payment of equal wages for equal work as per the orders of Supreme Court, regularisation of all the outsourcing workers’ services on par with regularisation of workers in the Electricity department, implementation of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) facilities for all workers in the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and clearance of wages of workers pending since months in the ULBs.

The Unions have been demanding payment of increased wages along with arrears for the workers working in the surrounding ULBs of GHMC like Boduppal, Peerzadiguda, and Pedda Amberpet, payment of 4 months salary of the strike period, construction of double bedroom flats to all the Municipal workers in the ULBs and supply of safety equipments to the outsourced workers on par with regular workers in the ULBs.

With the strike notice, the Municipal Administration had initiated steps to address the issues being raised by the worker Unions and issued orders in this regard to all the Municipalities of the State, except GHMC.

The ULBs had been told to deduct EPF and ESI contributions (employer + employee) from the wages of the workers every month and their remittance to Provident Fund Commissioner or Insurance Officer and updating of website of EPF without fail and issuing PF slips to the workers.

The pending of wages, if any, should be cleared immediately without any further delay to avoid financial hardship to the workers and safety equipment should be provided to the workers.
