Karimnagar: The Left parties are breathing fire at the police for handcuffing seven labourers on Friday while taking them to judicial custody in a decade-old case.

In 2007, many labourers agitated in Kisan Nagar here demanding allotment of house sites for them. The police registered cases against 33 labourers then.

Of them, some died in the course of time. Some others migrated to other places in search of work. Therefore, they could not attend the court. Of the 33 persons, only 11 persons, including four women, are residing at the colony.

They approached the Principal Civil Judge court here on August 17. On Friday, they attended the court to file a recall petition. The judge remanded them to judicial custody.

While taking the labourers to the jail, the police handcuffed seven of them. Of the seven handcuffed, five are Dalits. People’s organisations are angry at handcuffing the labourers ignoring the strictures passed against the police by the Supreme Court when the police handcuffed the chilli farmers at Khammam recently.
