Ramappa (Bhupalpally): The rock-built compound wall (backside of Nandi statue) on the east side of the 800-year-old Ramappa temple at Palampet in Bhupalpally district collapsed on Saturday. It is learnt that 36 metres of the five-metre high compound wall caved in due to incessant rains for the last couple of days.

It may be noted here that some part of the compound was reconstructed after it was collapsed about five years ago. The locals blame Archaeological Survey of India for the poor maintenance of the temple which is in the fray for the UNESCO World Heritage status.

The incident occurred three days after a team headed by Dr Choodamani Nandagopal, Art Historian, UNESCO Fellow Dean Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Jain University Bangalore, visited the temple to redo the Chapter-3 of the nomination dossier - ‘Glorious Kakatiya Temples and Gateways’ – that was to be submitted to the UNESCO World Heritage status.
