Members from State units of CPI, CPI (M), TDP and Congress protest at Jantar Mantar to raise voice against the ban on protests at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park in Hyderabad
Gathering in good numbers at Jantar Mantar, the perennial national protest venue, under the banner of Dharna Chowk Parirakshana Samithi headed by Chada Venkat Reddy of CPI, the leaders questioned the move by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government to silence people's voice and stifle dissent in the State.
The leaders protested that TRS itself was a party that came to power on the strength of protests and demonstrations of over a decade for separate Statehood. As such it was unfortunate that such a party should ban dissent as soon as it came to power.
JAC leader Kodandaram, Chada Venkat Reddy of CPI, S Sudhakar Reddy general secretary of CPI, Sitaram Yechury general secretary of CPI(M), T Veerabhadram State Secretary of CPI(M), TPCC members Uttam Kumar Reddy, K Jana Reddy, Shabbir Ali, P Prabhakar, V Hanumantha Rao, Suresh Shetkar, Balram Naik along with TPCC Incharge Khuntia, L Ramana of the TDP were among those who spoke.
Later a delegation met the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to apprise him of the government move and sought his intervention.
