Tandur: Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramachandrudu has called upon people of various faiths to celebrate Ganesh festival and Bakrid peacefully with a sense of universal brotherhood.

Addressing officials and peace committee members in a meeting held here on Sunday, the DSP directed wine shop owners to close the shops two days ahead of Ganesh immersion. He also asked excise officials to take action against belt shops selling liquor on the prohibited days.

All Ganesh pandals will have a police constable to prevent any untoward incident, he said and asked the R and B officials to fill the pits on the road to be used for Ganesh immersion procession. Circle Inspector Pratapa Lingam asked the pandal organisers to take precautions that no fire accidents take place because of an oil lamp which is left burning all through the night. Hindu Utsava Samiti, Muslim Welfare Association leaders, leaders of Congress, TRS, TDP and BJP took part in the
meeting.
