Dr S Sridhar, principal scientist and project leader from the Chemical Engineering Division of Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT)-Hyderabad and his team members were selected for the prestigious ‘Nina Saxena Excellence in Technology Award – 2017’ by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) – Kharagpur.

Hyderabad: Dr S Sridhar, principal scientist and project leader from the Chemical Engineering Division of Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT)-Hyderabad and his team members were selected for the prestigious ‘Nina Saxena Excellence in Technology Award – 2017’ by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) – Kharagpur.

The award was given away by Kewal Sharma, MHRD and Prof. P P Chakrabarti, Director, IIT-Kharagpur recently.
The award was given for "Innovative membrane technologies for promoting industrial progress and societal welfare". The Team members are Pavani Vadthya, Siddhartha Moulik, Dr YVL Ravi Kumar, B Govardhan and S S Chandrasekhar.

The IICT membrane team has been instrumental in setting up several membrane pilot plants based on electro-dialysis, nanofiltration and gas permeation of capacities varying from 500–8000 Lit/hr to facilitate solvent recovery, effluent treatment and gas purification in pharmaceutical, steel, textile and petrochemical sectors.

Work for promoting societal welfare involves design and installation of 14 model RO based defluoridation plants of 600-4000 L/h capacity and 25 highly compact low-cost Nanofiltration systems of 100-250 L/h capacity for purification of ground and surface water for more than 1 Million population affected by fluorosis, gastroenteritis, jaundice, typhoid and other water borne diseases in villages of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
