Hyderabad: The coordination meeting of various departments on drugs control has resolved to increase surveillance of airport and railway stations. They will also equip themselves with modern devices to identifynarcotic substances from suspects.

The 3-hour long meetingorganised by Prohibition and Excise Department, was held at Abkari Bhavan on Tuesday. It was attended by officials from Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Telangana Police, Drug Control Administration (DCA), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Customs and Bureau of Immigration.

Based on the information provided by scores of the accused, who were arrested in recent months for indulging in drug peddling and drug abuse, the officials have decided to prevent the menace by striking on the routes through which drugs enter the State. Air route and rail route were found to be major smuggle routes through which drug peddlers were able to find way into Hyderabad’s drug market.

Major issues discussed by the officials are recent trends in Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, recent enforcement activities in the City, cocaine trafficking networks, African drug trafficking networks, Interdiction of illicit drugs/controlled substance and Airport and seaport, New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) and Control substance-manufacturing and diversion and capacity building, awareness and Central funding schemes.

This meeting was attended by NCB’s Dr R P Singh (Deputy Director General) and Sunil Kumar Sinha (Zonal Director); DRI’s M K Singh (ADG) and Prasad Adelli (AD); Telangana Police’s Govind Singh (Additional Director General) and D V Srinivas Rao, (Addl. DCP - Rachakonda Commissionerate), B Sreenivas Reddy (Addl. DCP - Cyberabad Commissionerate); Excise Department’s Dr R V Chandravadan, Commissioner, DrAkun Sabharwal, Director; DCA’s Dr B Venkateswarlu, Deputy Director; CISF’s Sudheer Kumar (Commandant); RPF’s Shaik Karimulla (AC Crime); Customs’s R K Raman (Addl. Commissioner) and Bureau of Immigration’s, A K Mohanty (Assistant Director).
