Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has taken up various activities to protect Hussain Sagar Lake and other lakes and water bodies in Hyderabad. To mitigate the pollution entering into the lakes and water bodies, certain interventions are carried out and also the public awareness and participation is taken up for better environment.

HMDA intends to procure 30,000 clay Ganesh idols of 8 inch size each as per specified model from the artisans or agency to encourage the use of Eco Friendly clay Ganesh idols by the people. This will discourage the use of idols painted with metallic colors. Thus the pollution level would not rise in the water bodies on immersion of these idols.

As per Government instructions, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority distributes Eco Friendly Clay Ganesh idols every year to the common people at discounted prices through the resident welfare associations, NGO’s, schools, clubs and at designated locations.

The clay idols procured by the HMDA would be supplied at the following Municipalities specified in the HMDA jurisdiction. Badangpet, Ibrahimpatnam, Pedda Amberpet, Medchal, Shadnagar, Jalapally, Pirjadiguda, Bhongir, Jillelaguda, Meerpet, Boduppal, Sanga Reddy, Dhruvansh Voluntary Society for lakes and Neknampur Lake.
