Hyderabad: Congress Legislature Party leader K. Jana Reddy has strongly condemned the attack on Congress workers during the public hearing on Kaleshwaram project at Peddapalli.

Addressing a press conference at Assembly Media Point on Thursday, Jana Reddy alleged that the 'brutal attack' was carried out by the 'goons and rowdies' of TRS. "The police remained a silent spectator as the hired goons of TRS leaders attacked the Congress workers in the presence of the District Collector and the officials of Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) of Kaleshwaram Project. Such police brutality on opposition leaders who were raising people's issues is a dangerous trend," he said.

Jana Reddy said that former minister D. Sridhar Babu and other congress workers, who went to present their views before the committee, were illegally arrested. He said government should conduct the hearing in a transparent manner and extend all benefits to the affected farmers as per the Land Acquisition Act 2013. He said that the Congress party always supports development and never opposed irrigation projects. However, by creating a wrong impression about the Congress party, TRS Government is trying to cover up its failures, he alleged.

Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir alleged that the TRS Government has misused the public hearing as a tool for free publicity. He demanded action against the TRS leaders who incited their workers to attack Congress activists.

Congress MLC T Santhosh Kumar was also present.
