Hyderabad: Leaders of the State government Contract and Outsourcing Employees’ Federation on Wednesday condemned illegal arrests of its members following a ‘Chalo Secretariat’ rally held in the morning. The rally was organised demanding the regularisation of the contract and outsourcing staff working in various departments and organisations.

The employees are seeking equal wages on par with permanent employees, job security and removal of certain anomalies in GO No 16.

J Venkatesh, president of the federation said in a statement that the police had tried to stop the peaceful protest and resorted to illegal arrests. He accused the government for not taking further action after the High Court’s order stopping regularisation of the contract staff.

Venkatesh found fault with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for expressing his helplessness over the issue. He accused the government for not filling the vacant posts.

The federation president recalled that KCR had given an assurance that the services of contract or outsourcing employees would be regularised. The CM also assured that there would not be any appointment of contract employees further. Even after the assurance, contract employees are being appointed with less salaries, he lamented.

The federation leader appealed to the government to pay equal wages to employees doing the same job, by implementing the Supreme Court order of October 26, 2016, if it has real commitment. He called upon the contract and outsourcing employees to launch a united struggle, as their problems remained unsolved even three years after the formation of Telangana State.
