Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has recorded lower losses during the last four months with the streamlining and rationalisation of services and successful achievement of fuel efficiency. The TSRTC is able to reduce the losses by Rs 62 crore. Data on profit and loss is being compiled for submitting it to the TSRTC Board meeting to be held soon. The earning a day has been pegged at Rs 9 crore and expenditure at Rs 11 crore.

One of the board members told The Hans India that the TSRTC had recorded loss to the tune of Rs 126.4 crore as against Rs 178.8 crore during the last year. He said during the last four months from April to July the losses had come down by Rs 61.5 crore.

Officials said the TSRTC had taken several steps, like checking the illicit operations by private operators with the help of the Road Transport Authority (RTA) officials. Operations against vehicles, including jeeps, maxi cabs, etc, were stopped from carrying passengers. The TSRTC is operating over 10,300 buses covering 34 lakh km everyday on 3,615 routes.

The officials said that as many as 39,213 auto-rickshaws, jeeps, maxi vans, etc. were operated in the State. A special driver yielded results in attracting one lakh more passengers to travel in RTC buses. The IIM Bangalore found that the TSRTC was suffering losses because of illicit operations by private operators, according to union leaders. .

The official said the routes were also rationalised by reducing the loss-making services. After the formation of new districts, on the advice of the District Collector, the TSRTC had rolled out 150 new services. Concerted efforts are being made to increase the occupancy rate by 5 per cent to 75 per cent, the officials.
