Hyderabad: As many as 15,000 Jains graced the closing ceremony of 8-day ``World Forgiveness festival (Maha Paryushana Parv).” To mark the closing ceremony, a mammoth congregation was held by Jain community in the city at T-19 Tower, Ranigunj.

The function marks the end of the 8-Day Festival. To mark and celebrate it Jains in the city decorated their houses. Shunned using mobile phones, went on fasting, refrained from lavish lifestyle, and practised simple living, stayed away from going to movies. All the Jains in the city and one crore across the country observed Maha Paryushana Parv from August 19 to 26.

According to Praveen Rishi Upadhyaya, Jain Monk and the initiator of several unique initiatives, Maha Paryushana Parv is termed as the most religious festival in the Jain community, during the eight days, the entire community strives towards self-purification through fasting and sacrifice.

During the 8days, Jain community celebrated Lord Mahaveer birthday. They provide grass to cows; donate liberally for the good causes; feed the poor for 8 days.

Jains walked bare foot and avoid using vehicles. They practised brahmacharya informed Sampath Raj Kothari, Chairman of Vardhaman Sthanakvasi Jain Shravak Sangh, Secunderabad.

The Maha Paryushana Parv was organised under the aegis of Vardhaman Sthanakvasi Jain Shravak Sangh, Secunderabad, informed Parasmal Dungarwal, President of Vardhaman Sthanakvasi Jain Shravak Sangh, Secunderabad.
