Hyderabad: A workshop organised by the State Backward Classes Commission on Monday stressed upon the need for an action plan to review the existing list of BC communities in a scientific manner.

In a day-long workshop held at Dr MHRD Institute of Telangana, the BC Commission Chairman B S Ramulu and other members discussed recommendations made by various national level commissions for the betterment of BCs. Similarly, reports of the commissions appointed by the governments of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala as well as those constituted in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh were discussed at the workshop.

Attended by heads of several social sciences research institutes, senior professors from sociology, economics, anthropology and other streams had submitted their papers on the issue related for the development of BCs. Also, to identify the Most Backward Classes (MBCs) in the existing list of BC communities in the State.

The workshop had also discussed the list of BCs during the Nizam’s rule and the changes which had been brought in following the formation of the United Andhra Pradesh. Taking into consideration the reference made by the State government as per the Government Order no 6, the workshop stressed on an action plan to review the existing list of BCs, to identify MBCs in a scientific manner. Indian Council for Social Sciences Research (ICSSR), Southern Region, former director K Srinivasulu, JNU former Prof I Thirumali and others participated and Commission’s Special Officer V Chandrasekhar moderated the workshop.
