In view of incessant rains and their expected continuation for three more days, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to either evacuate or demolish the highly dilapidated structures in its limits.

Hyderabad: In view of incessant rains and their expected continuation for three more days, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to either evacuate or demolish the highly dilapidated structures in its limits.

GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy has directed the officials to conduct a thorough check in their respective areas on the condition of buildings, compound and retaining walls which are in dilapidated conditions. Instructions have already been issued for no excavation of cellars during entire monsoon season. In case of already dug cellars, the builder/owner have been be advised to take all standard safety precautionary measures like soil strengthening, nailing, etc., and further excavation should be stopped.

Special attention is being paid in hilly areas of Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills to avoid possible landslides and people living in low lying areas have been alerted to vacate their premises.

The GHMC Commissioner has asked the officials to keep men and machinery available in case of emergency. The officials should also be alert on messages from Control Room and weather reports from IMD/Media, he said.
