Hyderabad: A group of “concerned citizens” have decided to launch an organisation, named “Telangana Against Corruption” (TAC). It is intended to educate the people on day-to-day happenings in the State.

The group consists of Telangana Joint Action Committee Chairman Prof M Kodandaram, K Chandrasekhar, advocate., Zaheer Uddin Ali Khan, Social activist and Senior journalist, Vidyadhar Reddy, former IRS officer, advocate and activist, and Kingshuk Nag, author and journalist. Chandrasekhar participated in the Telangana movement in 1969.

This will be a non- political group with express objective of bringing to light the anti- people policies of the Telangana State government and sensitize the citizen about the realities of the goings-on in the State.

According to TAC press Statement, though Telangana State is a little over three-years-old and was created with great hopes – after years of struggle, the hopes are all set to be dashed. “What we now have in Telangana is a one family rule at the helm of which is Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the only other people who seem to matter are his son K T Rama Rao, daughter K Kavitha and nephew T Harish Rao,” It said.

What is worse is that all the old vested interests against whom the people of Telangana battled are back. Thus, it is the old feudalistic structure at its best making many wondering why did they have to wage such a long battle if this was going to be the ultimate state of Telangana.

The TAC said even as the Chief Minister practices a blow hot blow cold policy with relation to the Centre. numerous scams are surfacing in Telangana. This includes the Miyapur land scam in urban Hyderabad where hundreds of acres of government land seem to have been grabbed by influential parties who are politically well-connected.

The inefficacy of the much-hyped and high cost Bhagiratha mission has also become a sore point. Although it has a laudable objective of providing drinking water across the State, the implementation of the scheme is resulting in the destruction of existing supply lines of water even as there is no sign of completion of the scheme.

The common people, especially the rural folks, seem to be in the same distressing situation that they were before the creation of the new State. But the Chief Minister was wasting precious public money in building a new palace for himself in the prime area of the city.

With the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat moving away, there is a huge amount of space available for the Telangana government. But instead of utilising this, KCR wants a new secretariat at Bison Polo Grounds.

Besides destroying dwindling green space there is no justification for spending so much money in fancy projects.

In Telangana, the democratic space has been shrinking. Political parties in the opposition are at a loss how to counter the anti- people policy of the government.

There is no one to effectively raise their voice against the anti-people policies of the government. The TAC will from time to time set up

concerned citizens tribunals to examine specific issues like Miyapur land scam, the press statement added.
