Hyderabad: Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy on Tuesday expressed confidence that 56 depots in the State will soon come into profits.

Minister reviewed the performance of TSRTC on Tuesday and inquired about the revenues from region and service and also sought details about the losses faced by RTC. The Minister directed the officials to prepare plans to reduce losses and bring a turn-around in revenue generation apart from increasing the services.

The officials told the Minister that there were losses to the tune of Rs 480 crore from 96 depots. He said the services of the corporation were better compared to the transport systems in other States, with 5.45 kmpl mileage and 0.07 per cent accident rate, the TSRTC has been an inspiration in the country, he added.

The Minister said presently 27 depots were in profits and 56 depots have reported decrease in the losses and very soon all these depots would come into profits. The Minister added that the depots in Karimnagar, Ranga Reddy region were in profits whereas the depots in the Mahbubnagar and Medak region were facing huge losses. The Minister asked the officials to decrease the losses.

The Minister said the corporation would seek financial assistance from the State government to procure 1,500 new buses. He said around 1,500 buses have become old and need to be replaced and added that the corporation would submit a report to the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao regarding the new buses.

The Minister said the Vajra bus services would be extended to Karimnagar and Ramagundam towns. He said the occupancy ratio had increased in the buses with the number of passengers going up to 1.04 crore and buses travelling to 93 lakh km per day.

The Minister said the government wants to ensure that there is no village left in the State without RTC service and hence connectivity was being provided from district and mandal headquarters to State capital. He further said RTC buses would be streamlined along the Metro Rail on the lines of Mumbai.

The Minister said except for one or two property issues, the division process of the corporation was complete. He asked the officials to get the funds released from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). RTC Chairman S Satyanarayana, Transport Secretary Sunil Sharma, ED Ravinder, Venu, Swarna Shankaran and others participated in the meeting.
