Hyderabad: The state unit of the BJP wants to use the issue of Telangana Liberation Movement as a platform to consolidate Hindu votes and win over the weaker sections of the society in the Telangana State. Beginning from September 1, the central leaders including Union Ministers will be focussing attention on TS from September.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Wednesday, State BJP president K Laxman said that the national party has fixed a huge target of 60 Assembly and 10 Lok Sabha seats. The objective of his Telangana Vimochana Yatra is a first step in that direction.

During the Telangana Vimochana Yatra starting from Friday, he said that the party would highlight the brutalities of Razakars and the valour shown by the martyrs, expose the deception of the present TRS government, revive the memory of Hyderabad Samsthan Liberation struggle and pay tributes to the sacrifices of the martyrs.

He said this movement would get a fillip with the Union Minister Rajnath Singh addressing a public meeting at Nizamabad on September 17. Laxman said that though the Opposition parties including the BJP during the past three years had taken up several issues, both inside and outside the State Assembly, they could not make a visible impact as the government had been muzzling the voice of Opposition and even the people felt that the ruling party should be given more time.

He said the honeymoon period for the TRS government was over now and there was simmering discontent among people against the failures of the government. Hence the saffron part wants to go aggressive now, Laxman added.

Earlier, in a media interaction, Laxman said the party has decided to bring out stories of people like Komaram Bheem, Doddi Komaraiah, Chakali Ailamma, Shoiabullah Khan, Turebaz Khan and several other martyrs and bring out the documented and undocumented history to motivate the younger generation to work for the development of the State. In the second phase, the BJP will honour the families of martyrs of Liberation movement and will construct monuments at places of historical importance.

Laxman said the goals of the party have now been set out clearly and there was no confusion about them. “We are going on our own…no tie-up with TDP and TRS.” He said during past one year, the BJP has been focussing on strengthening the State unit and has been chalking out electoral plans. These plans would now be put into action from September 1, he added.

He said during the runup to the election campaigns of 2009 and 2014, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao assured the people that when the TRS government would come to power, it would officially celebrate September 17 but buckling under the pressure of MIM, the government developed cold feet and took a ‘U’ turn.

He said during the one-week long yatra, the BJP would take out rallies and hold meetings. It will pass through Bhongir, Errupalem, Bhairanpally, Vemulavada, Medchal, Maheshwaram and Appampally. While the Union Minister of State Bandaru Dattatreya will flag off the rally, another Union Minister of State Hansraj Ahir would be attending the concluding public meeting.
