Govt to bring all fishermen into fold of societies

Sangareddy: Minister for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Talasani Srinivas Yadav has said that district committees would be formed in all new districts so that unregistered fishermen could be brought into the fold of fishermen’s societies. Addressing the media persons here on Wednesday, the minister says that the State government has been striving for the development of every fisherman.

Srinivas Yadav was the chief guest on the occasion of releasing the first batch of fish seeds in Singur Project this year. After releasing fish seed into Singur reservoir, he addressed a huge gathering of people, mostly members from the fishermen community.

He says that the goal of the government is to make Telangana a surplus state for fisheries so that fish could be exported from here. He disclosed that the government had set a target to release 70 crore fish seeds across the State, which is more than last year. The size of the fingerlings and their survival rate is also better when compared to last year and it would take 6-8 months to grow, he added.

He said that the government was also building fish markets across the State and was giving mopeds and portable kiosks on 75 per cent subsidy, so that fishermen need not sell fish on the banks of nalas as they used to before.

He said that the process of distribution of fish seed was transparent, as weighing and counting was being done by fishermen, the process is also being video-graphed.

Talking about the sheep scheme, he said that there were initial hiccups in the implementation. But soon each and every beneficiary would be covered under the scheme.
