Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy on Thursday held a meeting with officials of different departments and representatives of Ganesh Utsav Samithi in connection with arrangements for the Ganesh idols immersion.

The GHMC has been making arrangements for immersion of Ganesh idols of different sizes at 24 lakes in and around Hyderabad. The main attraction will be at Hussainsagar lake where 27 cranes will be deployed. Of the 27 cranes, 18 will be installed on Tank Bund and 18 on NTR Marg.

Addressing the meeting, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said the GHMC had set up 165 Ganesh Action Teams (GAT). One team will be deployed for every 3-4 km and each team consists of one sanitary supervisor, sanitary jawan, electrician, three SF and 21 workers with three shifts per day. All arrangements were being made for smooth conduct of central Ganesh immersion procession to avoid any inconvenience to the general public, he said.

Main thrust would be given for smooth road for procession, removal of water stagnation, patch works, potholes filling, lane marking and kerb painting, the Mayor said. Besides Hussainsagar, there are 23 lakes where arrangements for Ganesh idols immersion were made.

They are: Kapra Cheruvu, Saroornagar Cheruvu, Rajanna Bavi, Miralam Tank, Palle Cheruvu, Patti Kunta Cheruvu, Durgam Cheruvu, Malkam Cheruvu, Gopinagar Cheruvu, Pedda Cheruvu, Gangaram, Gurunatham Cheruvu, JP Nagar, Kaidamma Kunta, Hafizpet, Erla Cheruvu, Majeera Road, Vinayaka Nagar, Rayasamudram Lake, RC Puram, Sakicheruvu, Patancheruvu, IDL Tank, Pragathinagar Cheruvu, Hasmathpet Cheruvu, Sunnam Cheruvu, Pariki Cheruvu, Venellagadda Cheruvu, Suraram Cheruvu, Kotha Cheruvu (Alwal lake) and Safilguda Lake.
