Hyderabad: Buoyed with the huge success of T-hub, Telangana government is all set for launching another major incubator, which is expected to be the world’s largest facilitator for startups, by 2018. In addition to this, the state government is planning to develop a million square feet work space to accommodate startups across different sectors under the state's ‘Innovation Policy,’ according to Telangana IT and industry minister KT Rama Rao.

Delivering inaugural address at ‘Deftronics-2017’, a two-day conclave on defence and aerospace electronics industry here on Thursday, KTR said: “We’re going to launch the world’s largest incubator by next year. This huge incubator facility will have a 3.5 lakh sft area accommodating over 1,000 startups all under one roof.

The government is also planning to develop a million square feet work space to accommodate startups across different sectors under the state’s Innovation Policy. It’ll be a step forward in ensuring the completely leverage our indigenous capabilities of our youngsters who wanted to come out with more and more success stories out of India.”

Another incubator exclusively for defence electronics space will also come up in Telangana soon. However, this is subject to approval from the Defence Ministry. The Telangana Government is mulling over an exclusive incubator for startups working in defence sector, says KTR. The current 70,000-sft T-Hub incubation facility in the city is the largest in the country.

“We have series of discussions with the scientific advisor to the union defence minister. We’ll launch a defence electronics and defence- focused incubator in Hyderabad very soon with the support of Centre,” said KTR.

Hyderabad is shaping up as a hub for aerospace and defence manufacturing and there are number of MSMEs working in these sectors, he said.

Telangana is eyeing about $7.5 million production of electronic products by 2020. “This is an ambitious target in the next three years. I do believe that we are well poised.

We also hope attract almost $3 billion investments in the electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) space by 2020,” adds KTR. G Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister, said that “80 per cent of the components being used in Akash Missile have been sourced from the private sector.”
