Hyderabad: The State government initiated a scheme to provide financial aid to child abuse victims as part of rehabilitation programme through Public Financial Management System (PFMS).

According to the coordinator of State Resource Centre for the Elimination of Child Abuse, this system would ensure direct and effective intervention of the government and provide timely help to the rescued victims. Under this scheme, the State government had formed a committee called State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) comprising six members.

Apart from rescuing and providing rehabilitation, the committee holds power to question the District Child Protection Office (DCPO) and other officials working under the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The main objective of this commission is to identify places in the city that have been serving as a hub of child abuse and rescue the
victims.

Centre for the Elimination of Child Abuse said the government should come up with even more strong laws to counter such evils and allocate more funds for such causes and focus towards establishing fast track courts both at Centre and State to ensure speedy judgement in cases of child abuse.
