Hyderabad: Telangana Electricity employees called off their stir on Saturday. D Prabhakar Rao, CMD of the TS Transco and Genco offered lemon juice to the leaders on relay fast thus ending their protests. The employees of TS Transco, Genco, SPDCL, NPDCL have been agitating as their promotions were cancelled following High Court orders. They demand restoration of promotions.

The Employees Union has launched an indefinite fast at NPDCL office premises from Thursday midnight onwards. Electricity Engineers Union President Shivaji, Convenor Janaiah, Accounts Officers’ Union General secretary Anjaih took part in the fast. Power engineers too launched relay hunger strikes in the office on the issue.

Against this backdrop, talks took place between the officers led by Prabhakar Rao and the Union leaders on Saturday morning at Vidyut Soudha. MLA Srinivas Goud, Beverages Corporation Chairman Deviprasad (on behalf of employees), TNGO President Karam Ravinder Reddy, SPDCL CMD Raghuma Reddy, Director Srinivas Reddy, Genco Director Ashok Kumar and several union leaders participated in the talks.

Transco, Genco CMD Prabhakar Rao explained them on the initiatives taken by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to give promotions to the employees and the efforts put up by the officials.

``Though the case on division of employees is in the courts, Andhra employees too demanded promotions to them. We told them it is not possible due to the guidelines and rules. We have decided to give promotions only to the Telangana employees.’’ He said.

Due to the cases in the court, still 1,200 Andhra employees are working in Telangana and they are paid by the State. When Telangana employees were given promotions, Andhra employees went to court stating it was injustice. Based on the petitions filed by Andhra employees, the High Court has dismissed the promotions. And we have no option but to cancel the promotions, Rao added.

Later Prabhakar Rao, other officials and leaders went to the SPDCL office and spoke with the leaders on hunger strike. Srinivas Goud and Deviprasad also convinced them. They assured that under CM KCR and CMD Prabhakar Rao, electricity employees would get benefits, which no other employees in the country will get.
