New Delhi: Telangana BJP leaders seem to be a worried lot over the possibility of P Muralidhar Rao becoming a Cabinet member as they are mounting pressure on Amit Shah, the national president of the party, to opt for Vedire Sriram, a Telanganite and national convenor for BJP's water management cell and adviser to the Ministry of Water Resources.

Sriram Reddy hails from Nalgonda and splits his assignment between Delhi and Rajasthan whose River Basin and Water Resources' Authority is headed by him.

The argument of the State leadership is that Rao should not be chosen in place of B Dattatreya as he belongs to the same social grouping of the Chief Minister as it would not benefit the party much.

The question is not about Rao's commitment or dedication to the party, but only that of caste considerations, they have made it clear.

This propped up the name of Sriram - till the filing of the this report has not received the all-important call from the PMO - who has earned the goodwill of not only the bosses in Delhi but also the blessings of Rajasthan Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje. Raje has no reservations in recommending his name and has no problem in nominating him from the Rajasthan quota to the Rajya Sabha, it is being said.

It should be noted here that Muralidhar Rao himself is not enthusiastic about joining the Cabinet going by a section of the party leadership here, which however, does not substantiate the argument beyond making the statement.

With Amit Shah deciding to turn his attention towards Telangana State from this month onwards, either of them could come in handy for the party in his scheme of things.

Whoever it is going to be there from Telangana State, he will have a greater responsibility of steering the State unit on the direction of Amit Shah.
