Khammam: By investing Rs 1,050 crore, the State government is constructing godowns with the storing capacity of about 35 lakh metric tonnes (MT) for the sake of farming community, informed Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao here on Sunday.

The R&B Minister, along with MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and MLA Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, participated in various developmental activities in Khammam on Sunday. The Minister also inaugurated the railway over bridge at Yerrupalem mandal, constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore, besides DCCB building at Meenavolu, Rythu Bazaar at Madhira, Market godown at Chirunomula and two 33/11 power sub-stations at Motamarri and Madhira respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Tummala said several programmes were taken up along with introducing welfare schemes for the betterment farmers in the State. “Construction of godowns with capacity of 5,000 MT in every village is the main target of the State government,” the Minister said, adding that farmers could bring their produce and store in the warehouses till they get good support price. There would be feasibility for the farmers to get loans through Marketing department on the food grains that were stored in the godowns, assured the Minister.

MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the Telangana state stood first in the country in terms of development and welfare activities taken up by the government. “The State also stands top in the construction of godowns for the sake of farmers,” he said.
Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadepally Kavitha, MLC Balasani Lakshminarayana, DCCB Chairman Muvva Vijay Babu, Seed Development Corporation Chairman Kondabala Koteshwar Rao, Rural Development Officer Purnachandra, District Officer of the Marketing Department P Santhosh and Supervisor Kiran Kumar were present along with others.
