New Delhi: Telangana is the only big state with 17 MPs that has gone unrepresented in the Union Cabinet. Former minister Bandaru Dattatreya was the only BJP MP from the state and was not inducted in 2014 itself but was accommodated later. Dattatreya was asked to put in his papers by Amit Shah for non-performance that sent him packing back to Secunderabad, his constituency. He will now be joining the party ranks to work for the party.

The latest Cabinet expansion gave room for speculation in both AP and Telangana that one each from the states would be accommodated in the reshuffle. BJP MP from Visakhapatnam K Haribabu's name was sounded by the media as a probable first and later as confirmed but he could not make it finally. AP at least has two Ministers, Y S Choudhary and P Ashok Gajapati Raju in the Cabinet as TDP representatives.

But Telangana has none now. All said and done a ministerial berth for every state would be a lot more helpful in the long run. Ministers are useful in keeping a tab on the requirements of their states. Take for example, the case of M Venkaiah Naidu who stood rock solid behind AP after the bifurcation and used his clout to get speedier clearances for the pending projects. This has been acknowledged by the Chief Minister of AP himself along with his ministers several times.
Naidu also helped Telangana equally as long as he was in the Cabinet.

Dattatreya also used to make rounds of the different ministers along with officials to pursue Telangana projects, be it of the Railways, Water Resources or Tourism.

This would be now a deficiency that TS would be facing. TRS MPs and the ministers will have to work harder for the development of Telangana now.

As of now, UP, Bihar, MP, Karnataka, AP, Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Assam and even tiny states like Goa, Arunachal Pradesh and Kerala are represented in the Cabinet with Sunday's expansion. Perhaps the BJP plans for Telangana are different now.
