Hyderabad: Stating that the existing Secretariat building has sufficient place and that there is no need for a new Secretariat complex, senior Congress leader V Hanumanth Rao on Sunday urged Union Minister Arun Jaitley not to concede to the demand of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for Bison Polo Ground at Secunderabad for the construction of a new Secretariat complex.

The Congress leader wrote a letter to the Union Minister, appealing to him to know the ground reality and even check with the BJP MLAs before making a decision on handing over the land to the government. He said that existing secretariat used to cater to the entire administration of Andhra Pradesh. After bifurcation, more than half of the building is vacant in which the government can accommodate more offices, and therefore there is no necessity of new Secretariat.

Hanumanth Rao said that there are large number of function halls near Bison grounds and construction of Secretariat there will lead to massive traffic jams and would defeat the purpose. He urged the minister to visit the place and know the ground reality in the interest of common people.
