Focus was laid on conducting the festivities in a fool-proof manner as large number of people will turn up at Tank bund, NTR Marg and other areas, while there are 24 other lakes in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area for the mega event.

Addressing a press meet at the Secretariat here on Monday, he said Ganesh idols immersion festivities are scheduled to be started on September 5 from 6 am onwards. All the roads leading to Tank Bund and NTR Marg are illuminated with bright lights and adequate number of surveillance cameras are set up with police personnel deployed at all points en route, he added.

The 11-day Ganesh festival will be culminated on Tuesday by idol immersion at selected lakes. A control room was set up at Sardar Mahal in Old City for coordination of departments for the festival. Some 30 lakh water sachets are being arranged, 25,000 police personnel and officials deployed, he said.

Police will conduct aerial survey using helicopter, some 800 CC cameras have been fixed right from Balapur to Hussain Sagar and other localities in the area and some 50 cranes are in place surrounding Hussain Sagar and other lakes. Metro Water Works had made arrangements to supply safe drinking water to the devotees.

Talasani said some 30 per cent of idols were already immersed so far and the rest will be immersed on Tuesday. Out of 10,232 Ganesh Idols installed at pandals, 4,101 idols have already been immersed so far and the remaining 6,100 idols will be immersed on Tuesday.

Focusing on the illumination along the main procession route, over 33,000 additional streetlights were erected at different areas, temporary high mast lights set up at strategic locations, the Minister said.

He said as many as 165 Ganesh Action Teams comprising sanitary supervisor, Sanitary field assistants and workers will be working in three shifts round the clock.

Additional vehicles were arranged for clearing garbage on the roads in addition to the regular garbage trucks and autos for collection of trash. About 14 sweeping machines will be pressed into service on completion of the idol immersion, he added.

About 23 heavy cranes have been installed for easing the immersion with 21 people for three cranes cumulatively and 531 Entomology workers have been deployed. About 40 mini tippers, 6 front end loader vehicles, 4 JCBs, 20 small sweeping machines and other vehicles would be in place during the final immersion day. The Ganesh idol at Khairtabad would be moved on the truck around 9.30 am on Tuesday.

About 85 swimmers will also be deployed across Tank Bund and NTR Marg. Two swimmers for each crane would be active during the immersion. The engineering wing of the GHMC had taken up about 117 road repair works across the Ganesh processions.
