National seminar on empowerment of minorities begins at UoH

The Government of Telangana is taking all steps for the development of minorities in the State, said Minorities Welfare Department Secretary Syed Omar Jaleel while speaking at the inaugural session of the National Seminar on “Politics of Inclusion: Empowering Minorities in India”.  

Hyderabad: The Government of Telangana is taking all steps for the development of minorities in the State, said Minorities Welfare Department Secretary Syed Omar Jaleel while speaking at the inaugural session of the National Seminar on “Politics of Inclusion: Empowering Minorities in India”.

The two-day seminar, which began on Tuesday, is being organised by the department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH) and sponsored by University Potential for Excellence (UPE-II), UoH and in collaboration with the Minorities Welfare Department, Govt. of Telangana.

Omar Jaleel remarked, “Earlier allocation of amount for the welfare of minorities sanctioned were never completely utilized, however the Govt. of Telangana has assured that the funds allocated will be completely utilized for the benefit of the minorities”. The major allocation of funds are for scholarships and reimbursement of tuition fees for the Minority students, he added. Jaleel also shared the policies which are implemented for the benefit of the Minority people.

Dr. Abusaleh Shariff, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Chair, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad delivered the key note address. Dr. Shariff said, “with little more effort the policies implemented by the State Government and the Central Government can 100% reach the Minority students and below poverty level people”. He also said that the people should change and allow the governments do their job in implementing the policies which are mainly needed by the Minority students and people.

The two-day seminar will see discussions on Political Parties and Minorities, Public Policy and Minorities, Politics and Identity, Political Empowerment and Minorities, Democracy and Role of State by eminent academicians from all over the country.

Earlier Prof. B. Chandrashekar, faculty in the department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences and convener for the seminar welcomed the gathering and introduced the theme of the seminar. Prof. Vasanti Srinivasan, Head, department of Political Science spoke about the Department of Political Sciences.

Prof. P. Venkata Rao, Dean, School of Social Sciences gave the welcome and highlighted the achievements of the School, faculty and students.

Prof. P. Appa Rao Podile, Vice-Chancellor, UoH presided over the program and conveyed his happiness on being part of this seminar and wished the programme all success. Dr. Suresh Kumar, Post-Doctoral fellow in the department of Political Science proposed the vote of thanks.
