Malayalees all over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh celebrated Onam on Monday with much fervour. Onam is not only regarded as the national festival of Kerala but also symbolises unity, equality, honesty, fraternity and prosperity of the people. Keralites, wherever they are, celebrate Onam. It is also the harvest festival of Kerala.

People of Hyderabad celebrated Onam with much delight and the traditional sumptuous feast where all the members of the family take part. The Onam celebrations started in the City by the Bowenpally Malayalees Welfare Association on 15th August itself.
From then onwards, every Sunday and on every holiday Onam is celebrated by various Malayalee Associations in the City. The Confederation of Telugu Region Malayalees Association celebrated Onam at Ravindra Bharati on 27th August with cultural programmes and the Onasadhya. The Nair Service Society (NSS) also celebrated Onam on the same day at the Mahendra Reddy Gardens, Bowenpally with cultural programmes and the traditional Onam feast.
On Monday, the Malayalees in the city made the traditional flower decorations (Pookkolam) in front of their houses and had a sumptuous Onam feast.
For the next over one month, Onam will be celebrated with much pomp and gaiety by different Malayalee Organisations. Meanwhile, C G Chandra Mohan, President of the Nair Service Society, Convener of the Thanal Malayalee Seva Samithi who is also the Chairman of the ATMA Malayalee Seva Samithi wished the Malayalees a happy and prosperous Onam. The All India Malayalees Association also greeted the Keralites on the occasion of Onam festival.
