Hyderabad: The cranes installed at Tank Bund along with the crew meant for easy immersion of idols remained idle on Monday since no large Ganeshas turned up on the 11th day after Ganesh Chavithi.
Interestingly, large Ganesha idols were unusually off the roads in city even as the employees and officials of line departments made necessary arrangements for idol immersion on Tank Bund and other lakes.
Only few people turned up on their two wheelers for immersion of their small Ganesh idols. A helper at a crane on Tank Bund, Sai Kumar, said that there was not a single large Ganesha idol on Monday.
He said that only few people came up with their home Ganeshas. “It is surprising that no one came with large idols today”, he said.
The stretch of the Tank Bund was largely free for traffic movement except the fact that people were seen on the bank enjoying the pleasant weather.
Stalls of different departments including GHMC, Electricity, Traffic Police, Police and others were already installed. A sanitation worker of GHMC Maremma, who was busy clearing the road at Tank Bund, said that it would be on Tuesday when a large number of Ganesha idols would be immersed in city.
Police sleuths were deployed at the entire stretch of Tank Bund and other spots in view of immersion. S Chandrashekhar, in-charge of the make-shift police control room, said that since most of the idols would be immersed on Tuesday there was low turnout on Monday.
Nevertheless, he was surprised over the very less number of large Ganesha idols on Monday. He said, ``By the evening of a day ahead of final immersion day, the scene at the Tank Bund would be abuzz with immersions but it is not so this time.” He said that immersion may take place in the night.
Officials believe that the burden on Tank Bund reduced slightly with diversion of idols to different lakes across the city. A corn seller on the immersion point, Vamsi said, “The cranes installed on the Tank Bund are lying idle from morning and until evening there is no big immersion activity.”
