Hyderabad: Union Minister for Food Processing Industries and BJP senior leader Sadhvi Niranjan Jyothi has strongly condemned Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for not organising official celebration of Hyderabad Liberation Day on September 17.

Addressing a public meeting at Medchal on Wednesday as part of Telangana Vimochana Yatra undertaken by the State BJP unit, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyothi said hundreds of people sacrificed their lives to liberate Hyderabad State from the Nizam's rule. However, she said it was strange that the Telangana Government was not organising any official celebrations. She said although India got independence on 15th August 1947, Hyderabad got independence only on 17th September 1948 due to the efforts of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

In his speech, Telangana BJP President Dr. K. Lakshman alleged that KCR was presented a distorted version of history only for political gains. He said that the BJP has launched the Yatra to create awareness among the people on Telangana's real Independence Day.
