New Delhi: Byelection to the Vemulavada Assembly segment has become inevitable now with the Committee of Enquiry constituted by the Union Home Ministry, under the Chairmanship of S K Tandon, unanimously ruling against the grant of Indian citizenship to TRS MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh.

The Committee was constituted after the Apex Court ordered the Home Minister to decide upon the issue and issued the order on August 31, but released a copy of the same only on Thursday.

The Committee, after examining the material witnesses and the statements of Ramesh and that of the witnesses produced by him, unanimously opined that the MLA had obtained the certificate of Indian citizenship by playing fraud on the Indian Government by concealing facts regarding his visits abroad in the 12 months immediately preceding his application for citizenship.

The Committee found him "guilty of suppression of facts" and ruled that Ramesh ceased to be an Indian Citizen from the date of the order under the relevant sections and provisions.
