Civic workers protest for salaries

Tandur: Municipal contract workers stage protest in front of the Municipal Office here on Thursday demanding regular payment of salaries and clearance ofthe arrears.

They expressed anguish stating that both the officials and the contractors are rendering a deaf ear to their grievances. They say their families have to starve as they have not been getting salaries.

Responding to the issue, Municipal Chairperson Sunitha Sampath said, `An inquiry by the vigilance officials on the contractors is in progress. That is the reason for delay in payment of wages to contract staff.’
