Hyderabad: Congress MLA A Sampath Kumar accepted the challenge posed by Finance Minister Eatala Rajender for an open debate on Dalits' welfare in the State.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, Sampath Kumar asked the Finance Minister to announce the date and venue for the debate within three days. He said that TRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao had promised to make a Dalit as Chief Minister. However, after winning election, he himself acquired the top post.

Sampath said that the TRS Government also failed to fulfil the promise of giving three acres of land to each Dalit family in the State. He said not even 1% of the promises made by TRS during elections for the welfare Dalits have been fulfilled.

It may be mentioned that Eatala, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday, had challenged the opposition parties, especially Congress, for an open debate to prove that TRS Government did more for the welfare of Dalits than the previous Congress and TDP regimes.

CPM too accepts
Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram on Thursday accepted the challenge posed by Finance Minister Eatala Rajendar on an open debate about the welfare of Dalits in the State.

In a press release here on Thursday, he said the CPI (M) was willing to discuss the issue and asked the Finance Minister to decide the date and venue and communicate the same.

Veerabhadram said his party is of the view that a comprehensive discussion on the implementation of all schemes meant for the welfare of Dalits in the State should take place.

He said his party had earlier demanded that the government convene a special session of the State assembly to discuss the welfare of the Dalits. However, the government had not responded positively till date, he added.

Appreciating the Finance Minister's move to discuss the issues relating to the Dalits and their welfare, Veerabhadram, asked the Finance Minister to not back out from the discussion.

He said in the past too some Ministers had thrown challenges and asked the opposition to come forward for a discussion and later backed out. He hoped that Rajender would not do so.
