Two-day disaster relief exercise to be held on Sept 22

Hyderabad: In an effort to create awareness among the public on man-made and natural climate change and urban disasters, the State government in coordination with the Army has conceptualised a two-day humanitarian assistance and disaster relief exercise from September 22.

Chief Secretary S P Singh on Thursday held a joint meeting with the officials of Army and the State government. The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary B R Meena, Secretary Municipal Administration and Urban Development Navin Mittal, GHMC Commissioner Janardhan Reddy, Major General Satish Wasade, Brigadier Alok Khurana and Colonel Amol Chada.

Special Chief Secretary for Revenue B R Meena along with Major General Satish Wasade told reporters that the exercise is based on an urban flooding scenario in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The exercise is aimed to synergise the efforts of all the agencies involved and build confidence among the people that the disaster management agencies are capable of tackling emergency situations.

Major General Satish Wasade said the main event of the two- day exercise would be held at the Sanjeeviah Park. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will inaugurate the exercise and it will be attended by the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijju, Minister of State for Defence Subhash R Bhamre and Maud Minister K T Rama Rao.
